Punxsutawney Phil predicts an early spring!

Granted a groundhog in Pennsylvania might not be your idea of a shining beacon of wisdom, or an infallible oracle of weather to come... (nor might it be particularly relevant to your geographical location)... But we can hope, right?

at least i'm choosing to hope over various other alternatives lol
(screenshot shamelessly stolen from Bill Murray's 1993 movie Groundhog Day)

Sunday, March 20, 2016 officially marks this year's spring equinox, theoretically the turning point in the season. Just over six weeks to go!

By the equinox last year, we were still shipping out to local indoors on the regular to school (boo), but conditions were finally improving enough for serious riding at home too. And considering this year has (so far) been so much milder, even including the recent snowstorm, perhaps conditions will improve even earlier this year?!?

So since I've spent the last few days whining about having nowhere to ride and my horse being miserably cooped up in tiny arenas, I'm going in the exact opposite direction today haha.

These is the things I'm most looking forward to doing as soon as the ground might reasonably be considered safe enough:

Cross Country Schooling!!

Because obviously.

nom nom nom carrot!!!!

Lessons with Dan

Hopefully will start in March!

Jumping big (for us) jumps again!

I had reeeeeeally hoped to do a little 3' coursework before moving inside for the season. We haven't jumped anything that height since before I broke my leg and my confidence needs a refresher...

Trail Riding

Because who doesn't need a break from the sand box on occasion?

Buying a new saddle!

Budget allowing.... ugh....

'does this saddle make my butt look big?' - emma
'no comment' - isabel

Just doing Random Shit outside with my mare ;)

yes i am actually looking forward to fly mask weather
'wat r dis stick?!?' - isabel

Building more jumps?

i want this jump in our own arena. badly.

And finally, Horse Showing!!!!!

ribbons optional. good friends a must tho.

What are you most looking forward to doing when the weather clears?

  1. I know what I'm not looking forward to...sweltering in the heat and humidity. I hope the snow clears out quickly and you guys can start riding at your home barn soon!

  2. I'm looking forward to not having a slip and slide of mud on my barn path. Also riding and such.

  3. COME ON, PHIL! Your pictures are making me long desperately for summertime! I just can't wait to be able to school regularly (dressage, jumping, xc, all of it!) and not feel like an out-of-shape, useless blob! Can't wait for shedding season and slick, shiny ponies!

  4. I'd be down with just being able to give my pee encrusted horse a real bath at this point.

    1. ha i was thisclose to adding 'giving isabel a real bath' to the list but then remembered, oh wait, hell no, that bitch hates baths and they are miserable for everyone involved....

  5. I second Carly on the giving my horse a real bath! We have a hot and cold wash stall, but I don't want Riley to freeze while drying off! His face is covered in a weird scab-y, fungus from being out in the elements and I want so badly to soak his whole body in something soothing! But yes to XC schooling and starting my schedule of proper lessons! Fingers crossed all the snow disappears today!

  7. In Oklahoma we could predict the weather with an armadillo!

I am looking forward to going trail riding at the lake and swimming with Moe! And, of course, breeding Gina. :D

  9. Sadly for me there will be NO warm, sunny February schooling trips this year... there is far too much rain and the footing is horrible. We will have to wait until March.

    1. ugh booo rain... (except i guess cali kinda needs it, but still!). we'll probably be all mud through february too, but hopefully march will come fast!

    1. the sickest joke of all is that it *IS* warm(ish) here - the weather has been pretty damn mild since the snow storm... but we can't enjoy it bc of said snow lol. oh well. hopefully you get some warm spring breezes soon too!

  11. Spring for me is signified by the end of my busy season. At that point I look forward to two lessons a weekend again! Because otherwise, I will just become a dressage rider. One lesson a week = only flatwork.
