cat sunday

If I had been ahead of the game this would have been posted yesterday under the title "Caturday" or some such clever name.... Tried to get some variation of "cat" and "sunday" to work together, but it ended up sounding a bit too much like "see you next tuesday" so..... uh, oh well? Cat Sunday works well enough, right?  lol....

sun cat?
Anyway. Happy weekend y'all. After all our praise of the mild winter weather and early spring, temperatures have gone back to being a little bit more normal for this time of year - namely, chillier day time temps in the mid-30s or low-40s, with overnight temps dipping well below freezing (and real feel temperatures in the single digits).

Martini: "Hm. You look busy but this fabric sure looks cozy - don't mind while I settle in!"
Obviously I can't complain overly deeply about this.... except to say that we had most definitely been spoiled to near ruin by the sunny pleasant high-60s and mid-70s of weeks past.... Oh well.

OG: "Watching you measure and cut and sew all this fabric is exhausting. I insist you take a break, m'kay??"
It's just meant for more time spent indoors. For both pony and person. Charlie is such a thin-skinned wimp compared to Isabel that I really struggle in finding the balance of "I want as much turnout as possible for the horse" and "Horse is fucking miserable outside in the cold and wind."

cats. getting right smack in the middle of crafting projects since basically forever. le sigh.
Poor pony. He really is a delicate little flower!

At least we don't have fresh snow on the ground like some of our northern neighbors (sorry Allison!!), and in fact at least the ground itself isn't actually frozen solid.

meanwhile... spotted at the h/j barn haha. cute chromey pony and...... wtf is that in the saddle???
Actually, despite the frigid temps the ground has stayed in pretty good shape and Charlie and I were able to stay outside for our weekly jump lesson yesterday at OF.

oh. obvi. it's a fucking cat. on a leash. looking for all the world like a conquering napolean lol
On a majorly positive note - it turned into another private lesson with trainer P (since Brita was off snagging 3rd place at Loch Moy's eventing derby with Bella, just a few seconds off the optimum time! and other lesson mates were either scared off from the cold or dealing with lameness issues).

exactly zero fucks given by this guy. actually he maybe even enjoyed the attention
I've actually had very few private lessons with trainer P - this was maybe my 3rd ever (2nd with Charlie) - but they are wonderful. I look forward to recapping it in greater detail later (maybe tomorrow?).

prettttttty sure he's my spirit animal lol
Only bummer is there's no action media. Oh well. We can make do without, right? Perhaps using our imaginations will help keep us warm in all this cold anyway?

Is anyone else out there dealing with the aftermath of a false spring and subsequent snap-back-to-winter reality? Brr.

  3. It's awful here. Air feels like -3 right now. And that's not even mentioning the Nor'Easter coming in on Tuesday. I've heard everything from 8" to a couple of feet of snow. It's hard to adjust after being able to ride outside again!

    1. yea for real, 'hard to adjust' is exactly how it feels to me too! it's funny bc in recent weeks the hjers at charlie's barn have still chosen to ride indoors when it's been a little cooler or windier and i haven't really understood it - like we should be taking every opportunity to get outside when we can! and of course now with more freezing weather and potentially snow we'll be forced back inside anyway. ugh.

  4. Woke up to snow this morning here in SC. Ugh. The horses have been shedding like crazy already so they got blankets on for the first time all winter. Last year it was 85 and sunny!

That cat looks massive! I love his expression.

    1. Ugh yea. March is always a hard year for us bc it's so bipolar. Usually it's hard bc we are so damn tired of the cold and march is full of warm weather teases. But this year we had such a mild January and February that the colder weather is really unwelcome lol

  6. Yuck on the weather. It's SOOO COLD. I bailed on Friday outing with Da Bird b/c too windy, bitter, and cold. Also snow. Saturday continued with more of the same. Sunday I gave up and rode my horse. Picture here: http://whichchick.tumblr.com/post/158325094147/bird-for-the-858-mile-spin-today-it-was-so

  7. You spoke too soon...the MD/VA/DC region is supposed to get anywhere from 5"-12" of snow tomorrow night and another 3"-6" on Tuesday. We're getting that blanket of whiteness alright!

  8. It was -4F here this weekend (without the windchill) and the only reason I rode was because I'd already committed to a clinic.

  9. We went skiing over the weekend... and came back to Texas and even colder temps. So much for weather that makes any sense

  10. OMG totally missed the fact that the cat was on a leash when you first showed me that photo! Too funny! And yeah this weather sucks. We're getting dumped on with snow tomorrow. Yay.

  12. Your cat OG is my favorite cat that isn't my own.
Also cats riding horses are always so smug. The little orange tabby that is sometimes caught on my foal cam was taught to ride when he was little and it's has just made him way too ballsy around V.

  13. Caturday forever! You really missed your chance!
