Happy weekend, y’all! It’s been a quiet one around these parts since I opted to just give Doozy a full week off post vet visit. Lots of grooming and snacks and…. that’s about it lol.
But I did finally sit on her again yesterday for a very light ride, chaperoned by a nice steady mare, and Doozy felt fantastic! Here’s hoping we can just ease back into it over the next week or so, maybe test out some little jompies etc… We’ll see!

In the meantime, tho, I figured we were due for a little
hilarity practice. Specifically:
braid practice. Bc. Uh. Well I probably haven’t braided a mane in 5 years… And wasn’t exactly what you would consider “good” at it back then anyway.

And let’s not even get into the whole relationship between tidy mane keeping habits and easy braids, m’kay?? lol…. Bc… Well. Ahem. We really don’t have much at all going for us in that regard either!
But. Eh. What the hell, let’s give it a go. Complete with pictures that absolutely do not do the devastation justice…
All the same, tho, I might need a little more practice to knock all that rust off! Sorry Dooz, but part of the job of helping me learn and advance my skills includes… random shit like this too.
Anyone else out there taking advantage of the budding spring to work on spiffing up grooming and show prep skills?
I need to do this this week before going to Carolina!! I haven't braided BB before, I'm hoping it goes smoothly. At least his neck is shorter than Ben's 😂
ReplyDeletelol i hope it goes better for you than my pics above haha(sob)
DeleteFifty foot rule! It only has to look good from that distance😂
ReplyDeleteHa now that’s a rule I can support !
DeleteOne thing I love about having baroque horses is being able to do a running braid. I remember doing the hunter braids.
ReplyDeleteDude sometimes I reeeeeally miss Isabel’s natural mane LOL! I used to braid it for literally every ride. Tho luckily I don’t have to do those teeny tiny hunter braids for eventing, we can get away with chunky buttons at least!
DeleteWe're just back from Horse of the Year so I have braids on my mind, lol. Yours are perfectly fine for dressage/eventing!! (I've seen MUCH worse in the dressage arena and nobody cared!) There's two little tips you can use to make them a little tighter/rounder if you like---first, use your comb to make the partings so that they're *super* clear down to the skin, and secondly, pull each section really tight when you make the initial braid. Make sure you pull each section upward instead of downward so it doesn't pull too much on the skin and annoy the horse. I tie each one with a little elastic band and roll it up before I sew it in bc it's less fiddly and I have butterfingers, but the pros do it like you did!
ReplyDeleteLoool, I laughed my way through this post, thank you! #TeamRoach
ReplyDeleteQuick Knots are life, you will never go back!
ReplyDeleteI think you're doing just fine! The mane's a little too short, so with some more length you'll have an easier time. Also grab some yarn that's closer to her mane color and you won't notice it so much.
