needs more #badass

I probably owe you some words, some explanations here. Sure, this blog is often guilty of dropping little teasers or snippets of tales to come (pretty sure I promised you at least one hilarious photo in the last post)... but I didn't mean to leave you hangin for so long!

Alas, I still am not quite ready to write my long sad tale of woe about what is going on with our jumping lately. Mostly bc I'm an idiot and totally forgot that I was supposed to be in Seattle for most of last week (literally forgot to even book the travel until Monday, to fly out on Tuesday in the early am...#fail). And have been playing catch up ever since.

I've also not even seen the mare since our disaster of a schooling h/j show last weekend (ha, there's some more foreshadowing for ya). Tho thank god for Brita, she's been hacking Isabel around all week so she's not entirely neglected.

it just feels right
So in the meantime, here are a couple odds and ends. Perhaps you missed it in my Fair Hill event recap -  but I lost my helmet cover out on cross country. Watch the top left corner of the gif below to pinpoint the precise moment haha.

Organizers were on the ball tho, and found the cover to mail back to me in record time. And I decided to take it as a sign. Recall that little poll I conducted last winter? About whether or not to bedazzle my helmet cover? Honestly, that post was more filler than anything else bc I had a motherfucking broken leg and not a whole lot else to write about...

But when that helmet cover somehow miraculously found its way back to me no worse for the wear? And given how shit-showy things have been for us lately? Well. I decided to just go for it.

We need a little more badassery in our partnership right now.

So that crazy ridiculous fiery little blue horse with a beady red eye and blazing mane and tail is now officially affixed to the cover. Hard to tell exactly when it'll next see the light of day - but whenever it does, I plan to wear it with pride.

all can't possibly be lost!
And because this is supposed to be a happy and empowering and uplifting post before I delve into the nitty gritties of what might be going wrong, here's a pic of Isabel getting it mostly pretty damn right in our lesson last week (the day before the terrible awful no good h/j show).

Honestly this lesson was not great either. It was a net positive, but not without low moments (again with the promises of hilarious pics - it's coming, I swear!).

It's cool tho bc the good moments were good. Lesson-mate H derping around in the foreground isn't even enough to distract from Isabel just lookin fanfuckingtastic.

So for now, the plan is to just keep moving forward. Maybe not upward - but definitely onward. Lesson day today will be all about sussing the mare out, likely informing our decision on what to do about our Jenny Camp HT entry tomorrow.

Wish us luck!

  1. At least you remembered Monday and not Tuesday...

  3. If you ever need another person to bitch to about jumping woes, feel free to email me. Bitching about jumping woes is currently my biggest riding strong point.

  4. If dressage allowed helmet covers with glitter decals, I'd totally rock that.

  5. It's really frustrating when riding isn't a linear process, but just try to focus on the good things! You guys will figure out the jumping thing and get back to being the dynamic duo we all know you can be!

seriously tho - the patch is from an ebay store and they have like... 10,000 patches. it's crazy. most of them are weird ish biker type stuff - but they seriously have everything. i spent... longer than i'm willing to admit perusing the store haha.

  10. Ugh. Does it help that we've all been there? Love your attitude throughout, you two ROCK

  11. ^ I agree with the above...we have all been there, although I know that doesnt help much. I like to think the painful times are the "it gets worse before it gets better" type thing.
