once upon a time...

In a small little town, there was a small little farm, where a small little white pony named Twister lived. And this little pony was.... very cool. And very cute, too.

skeptical pony is skeptical. and also cute
Twister is a children's pony, and has done just about every single thing under the sun. From the pony classes at horse shows to countryside fox hunting, and everything in between.

omg he's so fucking short hahahahahaha
Then came one special weekend, when Twister's normal kid happened to be out of town -- and so his people let poor old Emma take him out for a little spin <3 <3 <3

And oh my goodness, you guys. This pony. Omg. He is so extremely cute haha.

fuzzy pony ears directly up my nose <3
But also.... Like, I knew it was going to be a pony but.... I admit to being a little taken aback by his, erm, slightly diminutive stature. He is TINY, yo. And I also fully believe this little dude was HIGHLY SKEPTICAL of me when I started getting him all ready. I'm probably the largest jockey he's had in.... a while lol. Bc yea. Kid's pony, through and through.

omg
Actually, tho, my Bates saddle fit him pretty reasonably with a 42" girth. And sure, my leg hung well below his belly... but actually he felt nicely substantial to sit on. He seemed like a cob-y sorta pony with gigantic (proportionally, at least) feet and good bone in his legs.

omg omg omg
So like. Sure, we can all agree that my fatass self is probably a little too big for this pony. But let's be real, I'm not taking him to horse shows, I'm not riding him hard. I literally just spun around a few times over like 1' jumps.

omfg
And holy shit balls, it was amazing. Dear god, that horse pony, wow. So so so SO FUN!!

omg the actual most fun ever
Like, this pony has been around the block and knows his shit. You put your hands forward and heel down, and aim him in the general vicinity of a jump. And voila! You have achieved pony jomping!!

omg his neck his tail his little ears, omg so fucking cute tho
It's actually hilarious bc I was circling him around a little to warm up, and after aiming him at the first little ground pole, he just immediately started locking onto all the little jumps. So cute.

wheeeeee i'm on a horse pony!!!!
And actually it was extra cool getting to ride him in this setting bc even tho obviously this was not a serious ride or lesson, the trainer there still zeroed in immediately on my forever-habits.

LOCKED AND LOADED ahaha.
also -- incidentally, this is the type canter balance i'd love to see in my own bronto....
Like wanting to carry my hands too low and far back, with reins too long. She also poked and prodded at my release a little bit. Which ya know. Is the EXACT benefit of riding a surefire schoolie: you can basically just set the horse in motion then focus on fixing yourself as a rider.

lol holy shit i love ponies
The trainer also wanted me to improve my lower leg a little bit... but frankly I'm going to cut myself a little slack there and take the easy way out by blaming it on this saddle haha. Sure, I spent years riding in the Bates without much issue. But.... ya know, it's a cheap saddle that doesn't do me many favors.

teeny oxers for tiny ponies!
Also, obviously I'm out of shape haha. Considering I haven't jumped since.... hm. Mid March? And actually, now that I think about it, haven't jumped anything other than Charlie since the Velvet Days in 2017 LOL.

It was fun tho. Silly and a little ridiculous. But so so so so much fun. There are so many special horses and ponies out there -- especially these school masters who have been there and done that and seen the world.

the fucking cutest holy shit
I really wish it was easier to find higher level (and, ahem, horse-sized) school masters in my area available for lessons. Bc frankly part of my issue with trying to move Charlie up a level is that.... I've already taught him everything I know, and now he's starting to figure out everything I DON'T know haha.

So it would be nice to get a little experience with something that has that training and can help me fix my mistakes, rather than sorta always going in cold with Charlie.

thanks Twister, i needed that <3 <3 <3
Maybe one day, tho. For now -- this fun little romp around with this tiny little pony with a heart of gold was EXACTLY what I needed haha.

What do y'all think? If you had shown up at this random farm and found tiny cute little Twister in the stall waiting for you... would you have gone for it too?? Anyone else out there have a soft spot for these little guys??

    1. That indoor is so freakin pretty - really nicely sized too. And just tucked away in the middle of nowhere, go figure. Only downside is that it’s hard to get good pics and video bc of the lighting - but in person it’s very bright in there

  2. When I used to ride at a riding school they would periodically put me on a pony for a little tune up. They were so much fun. I loved it. Twister is adorable

    1. Oh man that’s awesome tho haha. And actually I suspect that’s part of why twister was a little skeptical to start out. He was wondering if he was in trouble or something bc that’s probably the only time he gets an adult rider lol. But after a few pets and scritches he seemed reassured. And then obvi nothing else in the world mattered once he started locking onto the fences lolol

    1. yesssss!! i love them all too, but honestly after having spent some time with a bratty one a while back (ahem, krimpet) twister's trustworthy happy go lucky attitude was quite nice!!

  6. School masters are always nice to get rides in on, especially if they're Twister sized :)

    1. oh man, agreed!! for one brief blissful period in my adult riding life, i was at a farm that had a whole string of very experienced lesson horses and i rode a different one every week. but i still feel like that experience was kinda squandered on me at the time - like maybe i'd learn even more if i could do it again now...

  7. I've only ridden a couple ponies but both were equally awesome. Plus the ground is so close it doesn't matter if you fall off :)

    1. lol i may or may not have had that EXACT thought going through my head haha, esp considering the last pony i rode was krimpet, who 100% did in fact deposit me unceremoniously back on earth. tho... lol, in that experience she added enough oomph to the movement that i didn't exactly take a direct path down.... #memories

  9. no pony discrimination here at all. I rode welsh ponies for a breeder in my area (in the sales ring no less) when i was younger and a lot lighter (I am short so can ride ponies or at least used to HA). and loved them. Had so much fun. I would even buy a pony if it was sturdy enough to carry me :) He looks fun! glad you got to ride him!

PS I fell off a lot of them and it is a lot closer so you hit like a sack of potatoes. Those ponies could drop a s houlder like no ones biz ;) HAHAHAH OMG The memories!

    1. omgosh ain't that the truth tho.... i fully warned anyone who would listen that it was highly likely i'd end up falling off this little guy. a like large horses bc there's so much more real estate ya gotta cover before you find the edge HAHA. luckily tho this little dude took excellent care of me <3

  11. I'm short so I should be on ponies! And if they have a little bit of a naughty streak, all the better!

    Twister is adorable! Those eyes!

    1. lol there are certainly plenty of naughty ponies in the world!! i actually really appreciated tho that Twister was cut from different stuff. so so so SO many of my bad riding habits are rooted in being a little timid or defensive - not going for the forward step, having bad hands, etc etc. sometimes the naughty ponies can reinforce those bad habits in my riding, whereas a nice trustworthy steed like Twister helped me let go and soften in a better way. at least for me, it's all about that muscle memory LOL
