my little pony

My heart grew about three sizes this week when I hiked out to Charlie's pasture, and he came RUNNING UP TO ME OMG!!! <3 <3 <3 <3

d'aww his cheeky little face <3
Except, wait a second -- hang on buddy, don't ya think you should slow down a little???

he's basically straight out of a storybook, right? that mane, omg
Oh.

Ah. I see.

Not actually running *to* me, so much as..... straight past and away from me.

Uh huh. Wow, ok.

I see where your true loyalties lie, Charles.

Somebody, not naming any names here, but somebody may have gotten a little too used to the quarantine / retirement lifestyle!

lol i hate to see him leave but love to watch him go!!
And I gotta say, I was gonna be miiiiiighty miffed at trekking alllllll the way out to his field if the entire herd was about to beeline back down to the gate. Wtf.

The herd changed course tho, and the stampede fizzled as quickly as it began.

Wherein obviously I became a much more interesting object to Charlie, bc -- surely! -- I must have cookies!

hard to get the whole horse in the frame. that mane tho OMG
Aw, such a good pony <3

We still haven't really gotten into anything exciting at this point bc an hour long visit appointment isn't really enough for substance. But that's ok <3

lol stand still charlie <3
It's been just so so so wonderful to get back into some semblance of routine, and spend quality time with my favorite bay bronto again!

Tho ya know.... It's also given me plenty of time to wince internally every time I see the epic proportions of mane he's grown over the last 2 months.

Dear lord, what on earth am I even going to do with it?!?

  1. That’s hilarious. Also, a French braid is snazzy. 😁😁

    1. Lol I used to braid Isabels mane bc it wasn’t mine to alter, plus it was reasonably thin. Charlie has straight up thelwell hair haha, and is already starting to sweat under it so.... it’s gotta go. Possibly I see scissors in his future omg lol

  2. When they cancelled the recognized shows for the year here I pulled Opie's mane in sadness, only I got too overzealous and turned it into a one inch mohawk. So I guess the good news is I won't have to pull it for the rest of the year?

    1. Lol I like it! Honestly I kinda dig the mohawk look over all but never manage to get things quite that short. Also I am straight up terrible at pulling lanes so .... yea haha

  3. He's looking at you so intently in the first photo that it also had me fooled. If you let his mane keep growing, eventually the hairs will be long enough to knit into a mask. Trust me.

    1. Lol he looked me dead in the eye and was like “See ya later!!” And kept going haha... also. Yea. Knitting something out of that tangled mess actually doesn’t seem totally unrealistic LOL

  4. Dante has some major Quarantine hair despite the fact I see him everyday - just no time to actually pull it!

    1. Yea.... with all this limited time it’s like we have to pick and choose what we actually have time for.... and right now it ain’t his mane lol. I’m debating actually just giving in and paying someone to fix it. Or just chopping the whole mess off with scissors lololol .... (wouldn’t be the first time!)

  5. Love is Bye Felecia moment and so so so happy you are getting to ride again. The 1 hour limit needs to go away though. As for the mane, I'm jealous! Gem's is sooo nice, but Eeyore has been sporting a thin, floppy mohawk for the entire 2 years I have had him and it hasn't grown at all. At first I thought maybe they roached it before I got him and it would grow out but 2 years in I'm thinking it is just him.

    1. thankfully they're switching to a 2hr structure this week, and i get FIVE visits!!!! yesssss we are getting back to normal <3

and re: Eeyore's mane.... i've only ever met like two appaloosas in my entire life who have hair haha. one didn't even have an appy coat - he was solid chestnut in appearances but apparently appaloosa in breeding (??); and the other was some sort of warmblood mix and just had amazing mane and tail. otherwise tho, yea, that breed is unfortunately known for pitiful tufts of hairs rather than luscious locks haha. it's endearingly cute tho!

  7. Lol!!!!! OMG Chimi did this to me recently and my heart grew 3 sizes as I thought "this is the storybook feeling other people get to experience!!!" And then it quickly dawned on me he was just missing his horsie girlfriend. Oh horses.... but yes to cookies for bringing him back to you :)

  9. Geeze Charlie, what a tease!
I feel you on the manes. I'm heading back to horsing tomorrow, and I'm not excited about the mane situations. I did say I'd pay for them to do it if they have the time the last time I saw them (because it was horrifying, Eros and Shiny have Thelwell manes). But I'm not counting on it getting done. Maybe I'll be surprised?

    1. Omg yes - the thelwell mane is exactly where we are at too. It doesn’t help that Charlie’s neck alone is like 5 feet haha... and yea I'm toying with paying to get it done too, tho that’s not really a standard service at my barn. Miiiiight resort to scissors, the horror LOL
