boyd + thomas! |
Moving on, it's Kentucky 5* weekend!!! Or, at least, it would be if the entire world wasn't sidelined in some way shape or form by covid.
you know what it be |
I can't even imagine the personal devastation some of the would-be 5* entrants are feeling... And yet, ya gotta appreciate the brave face so many have put on -- what with virtual jogs and whatnot all over social media.
complete 2019 xc coverage
Plus - as you've likely already seen elsewhere in the blogosphere and on social media, everyone is doing their best to relive all the good memories without thinking too too deeply about missing out on the "now."
boyd + thomas show jump!
Long time readers might remember that I've gotten into a sorta annual habit with my Kentucky trips. One of my good friends hails from down yonder, and her family always opens up their home in Louisville to our raucous group.
It's become tradition, and we always book our tickets at the earliest possible moment. Because it's a forgone conclusion - of course we're going!
ollie townend + cooley master class -- winning round!
So ya know, just like everyone else this year, we're a little bummed.
bonus grand prix invitational round with karl cook
And obviously all these videos barely scratch the surface of what it's actually like to be there. Seeing all those amazing horses up close and personal. Walking the xc course, observing the warm up rings, strolling through all the tent sales and vendor booths....
complete 2018 xc coverage - including footage of winner Michael Jung
also plus some show jumping footage! inc P Dutty, Boyd, ML, and Jung
But ya know. At least it's something haha. Unfortunately for some reason I never made an overall compilation video from my 2016 trip. Not sure why, bc I must have had at least a little bit of footage in order to grab the still shots used in that post.
Oh well, tho, the 2018 and 2019 videos are pretty epic <3
missing this crew right now! |
All of it. Which, not coincidentally is not far from a reflection of missing out on that social interaction in normal every day to day life right now for so many of us.
Sigh. Oh well, it is what it is. Hope you are all having a great Friday - and enjoy reliving some of the Kentucky glory from years past!
I went 8 years ago and loved it. Came home with a saddle too. The plan had been to take our foreign exchange student this year. Her 18th birthday was yesterday and it would have made a great gift. But oh well.
ReplyDeleteaw honestly this whole quarantine situation is hard enough, but i feel like it must be especially terrible for teenagers (since basically everything is apparently especially terrible for them lol). tell her i said happy birthday tho ;)
DeleteEver since I moved to KY, the KY3DE XC has been an event on my calendar. Most years, my husband has been so excited for it (and he is not a horse guy) that he goes ahead and buys the tickets before I even get the emails haha. Really sad it won't be happening this year BUT it is supposed to rain all day tomorrow. So that kind of helps me feel better about it.
ReplyDeletelol soooooo i totally checked the weather forecast too and was just like, welp, there ya go. haha.... my first rolex was suuuuper rainy on xc day (probably why i didn't have enough footage for a video) and it was honestly still pretty friggin awesome. but the last two years that have been sunny?? yea, much better LOL. here's hoping for next year tho....
DeleteThis is 100% one of those events that's on my wish list of things I'd like to see in person one of these days. (Even if it's still stuck as Rolex in my head. lol)
ReplyDeletelol i still think of it as "rolex" too haha.... and actually still use the 'rolex' label to categorize all my posts on the event. if you're ever curious, they're all here:

I am missing Kentucky this weekend too!! It feels weird to not be in KY this time of year :( also, I wanted to say I've gotten a lot of content from being on your blogroll, so thank you!! I just made one and you are on mine as well :)
ReplyDeleteWhoops that didn't post with my name attached
Deleteha glad you added your name, i was gonna ask! and thanks for reading, i've enjoyed following along with your updates as well - esp bc you're so local. actually i audited the doug payne clinic you rode in, but only saw two groups, not yours i don't think.
DeleteIt's a pretty weird feeling that its not happening this year (oh man can you imagine if we go a whole year without a horse show!?) We'll see what happens I guess, and one day eventually I will hopefully make it to KY for the 3DE and actually meet up with people lol
ReplyDeletegod i hope it doesn't come to a full year without shows..... for real tho, when this is all over i feel like there's gonna be a big surge of people not taking for granted that these adventure opportunities will always "be there." it'll be bucket list time for sure haha - and something i'm already starting to excitedly anticipate ;)
DeleteI literally have no concept of days anymore. Loved watching these videos! Hopefully next year...
ReplyDeletelol yea the days are.... playing tricks on me. for real tho. but YES, hopefully next year will be different!
Deleteugh one day I will get there. I am glad it rained anyway :) HA...makes me feel a tiny bit better!!
ReplyDeletelol yea the rain did sorta help in a weird way. like, if it had to be bad weather it might as well have been this year!
