da real MVP

I wrote yesterday about all the wonderful trainers we are lucky enough to see regularly, with all their fantastic barns and facilities and horses and all that fun stuff. There was apparently one big detail missing from the cast of characters that makes our whole system possible tho.

Behold:

 trucky truck!
The real most valuable player, my beloved truck and trailer! Buying this rig continues to be one of the best decisions I've made for my horsey hobby.

And - sappy as it sounds, this purchase was inspired 100% entirely by this blogging community. Before I even started this blog, when I was just that creepy lurker (fun fact: I'm still super creepy haha), it amazed me to see other horse people just like me go out and take control of their own horsey adventures.

horse showing independently with friends ftw!
It had literally never even occurred to me that I could just wheel right on up to the trainers of my choice (maybe even more than one!). That revelation suddenly opened all my doors with Isabel wide open - and is what made me see our partnership with new eyes. To see it as full of opportunity and potential, instead of feeling stuck at a quiet backwaters trail barn.

let's just forget (forgive?) that time i broke my goddamn mother fucking leg from falling out of the trailer tho.... m'kay?
(also, no your eyes do not deceive you. i am, in fact, wearing shipping boots in these pics haha #safetyfirst)

Perhaps the greatest thing about this setup is that it isn't particularly fancy. It was an investment, sure. But it's also just a 15yr old 200k+ mile truck and a small stock trailer. But damn, do I love them from the deepest darkest recesses of my cold little heart haha.

lots of memories
Mostly tho, if you were scratching your head yesterday about how I made it to all those farms and trainers with Isabel - well, this is how.

And I'm forever grateful for the circumstances that put this truck and trailer in my life. Have trailer, will travel, right?

  8. Man I wish I still had access to a float! I've got the self-loading horses (those 2 in the video are pros!) but noting to put them on :)

  9. I agree- it's been the best thing for me too. There's nothing like the independence of your own wheel.

  11. The tow rig of one's own is awesome. I took the plunge this past spring and it has been pretty darned sweet to be able to go places by myself.

  13. My Rig is my precious. I love it to pieces. I seriously take it for granted too because I have never been without and was always the one giving rides. It is absolutely vital!

  14. I'll never forget the first time I hooked my trailer up, loaded the mare and rove to the trails all by myself. What a feeling!! Retroactive congrats on your horsey freedom!

  15. A horse trailer was at the very top of my want list for so long. Now that I have my own rig I cannot imagine life without it.

  17. Yeaaaah in the next year or so I really want to get a wee lil trailer of my own. Doesn't need to be fancy but it will definitely open up options in terms of going places with the whole beg/borrow/steal problem I have now.
