It's looking like we'll be closed for another 2 weeks. And that's not even an official mandate - it's just our vet and barn management exercising extreme caution. I can respect that. So, definitely not the worst thing in the world.
I'll have a post soon enough on what, exactly, is going on - and what the implications are for bringing Isabel back in to work. Just need to do a little more research first to make sure I understand what's what and have a plan. But suffice it to say that everything is probably gonna be ok.
In the meantime, we'll continue to work double duty at the barn to mitigate the risk of cross contamination between sick and healthy horses. There are 9 total sick and on stall rest as of last night. The other 21 received the vaccine booster and are enjoying an extended spring break in their pastures (since riding is not permitted). So hopefully we've finally managed to get in front of the illness and won't see any more new cases.
thanks! i'm a little bummed about missing the first few events - but like you say, there will be plenty more! and i'm definitely impressed with mgmt's handling - you never regret being too careful with horses!
thanks - i think you're right too. isabel somehow managed to be the only horse in her herd to be ill, for which i'm grateful. i guess we caught it early enough to limit her exposure to everyone else (except her trailer mate ... oops!)
definitely super obnoxious! we always know that making serious plans with horses can be dicey.... but this really upended a lot of plans.... oh well. we'll be back at it soon enough :)
Fingers crossed for all healthy horses soon!
ReplyDeletethanks!

DeleteOh no. What a bummer.
ReplyDeleteBut I think the fact that you were extra diligent with Izzy in the first place helped it not get worse.

DeleteUgh that sucks, could be worse I guess...it's good to be diligent. :)
ReplyDeleteyea definitely could be worse. i'm not thrilled with it at all, but am definitely relieved it's not 3 months (from our initial diagnosis)

ReplyDeletethank you! they are all recovering, slowly but surely!
DeleteGlad it wasn't worse but how obnoxious! Fingers crossed everyone gets better soon and you guys can get back to work!
