tack shop shenanigans

I stopped by the local tack shop the other day to return the older trial Bates that I've had for.... a long time, haha. And naturally I did a little browsing through the consignment section.... how could anyone resist?

That's when I spotted this somewhat, uh, LOUD red nylon hackamore. Well, honestly it was kinda hard to miss, buried tho it was under all the normal leather bridles. lol

I've wanted to try Isabel in a hackamore for a long time - just for trail rides, primarily - and for $16 why not?? This isn't exactly a fancy piece of equipment, but the sizing is pretty close (it's a touch too small) and I actually kind of LOVE how ridiculous/obnoxious it looks. In the sense that I laughed maniacally after putting it on poor, long-suffering Isabel.

hehehehehehe

And obviously you can't just put normal reins on this sucker, no no, much too boring. So I snatched up these colorful rubber reins too (a steal at $11). Unfortunately I didn't notice they are pony-sized until I got them home... oops! But it's not a big deal, really.

hahahahahahaha

So yea. This my new trail bridle. For a whopping grand total of $27 - reduced to $14 bc I had store credit - I am now the incredibly proud owner of what might be the world's ugliest most awesome-est bridle!! :D

see the coop?

As another random aside - I always love driving down the back roads to this tack shop. It's located right in the heart of fox hunting territory, and you can see signs of it every where. Almost every pasture fence has a section converted to a coop or with the hedges trimmed back to create a nice jump. Definitely fuel for the imagination!

Love the coop pic - a day hunting would help you love those types of fences ☺

  7. If you're going to have a bright red hackamore, it NEEDS rainbow reins :)

  8. One of my favorite memories of riding is galloping over hunt jumps set up throughout the trails when I was in Canada. I was riding this most amazing horse and it was so fun!!! I bet Isabell would love to gallop over those in her awesome new hackamore :)

  9. That is really bright. I put my hackamore on a red/wht/blue head stall, so it is only a little less bright. That was my arab's trail bridle so it matched his western pad. Defintely worth having, especially at that price.

  12. Haha love the bridle and Isabel's expression with it!

I trail ride in a hackamore too sometimes, nice for a change of pace!

Your hunt territory looks beautiful, we don't get any of that here since our territory is pretty suburban, hence no fun fence line jumps

    1. the hunt community works pretty hard to maintain the territory i think - and all the roads through that area are marked as 'scenic horse & hounds' routes lol

  13. I personally think it's your right as her rider to torture her with as much flamboyant tack as possible :)

    1. haha it'd certainly be a 'look' that's for sure :) i'm not sure how well it'd do for jumping - the brakes work really well, maybe TOO well since the come complete with some serious head flinging lol
